As spring approaches, it’s a good time to remind people in your community what rising temperatures and melting snow can mean for their homes. Here are three tips you can pass along on how to prevent damage to homes from thawing ice and snow:

1. When snow of 6 inches or higher has accumulated on rooftops, safely clear it off to prevent cave-ins.
2. Clear snow from basement wells and around doorways to prevent flooding.
3. Don’t leave snow in piles on driveways. This could lead to cracking once the snow starts to melt.
