Water Still Flowing, but at a Reduced Rate

A recent National Rural Water Association (NRWA) survey on the effects of COVID-19 has revealed that up to a third of systems have seen a reduction in consumption averaging 25% since the outbreak, with the bulk of this due to business shutdowns. Residential consumption has gone up in the same period, as more people are staying home. The other two major findings show nearly a fifth of those surveyed are concerned about maintaining operations due to staff illness and sourcing adequate supplies.

The NRWA has urged Congress to take action to include water and wastewater in the next stimulus bill as reduced consumption and non-payment of bills due to hardship bites into revenues.
