The Clear Take on Water and Wastewater Today

Wipes are Being Wiped Out

When you see your PeopleService operator around town, our advice is don’t bring up “wipes.” Wipes are a real pain in the rear when it comes to wastewater treatment – and it hasn’t helped that the manufacturers scream on the label that they are “flushable.” The good news is that Kimberly-Clark, a major manufacturer of wipes, settled a class action suit in April, agreeing to make their Cottenelle flushable wipes compliant with wastewater industry flushability standards (yes, there is such a thing) by May 2022. The fight continues with Proctor & Gamble and retailers Costco, Walmart, Walgreens, Target and CVS. Meanwhile, help us stay vigilant by reminding your citizens that wipes are not flushable. Thanks!
