USDA Offers $4 Billion in Funding for Rural Communities to Improve Water Infrastructure
We know first-hand that rural communities are looking for ways to grow and thrive. Having a modern water infrastructure allows you to attract new business and manufacturing to the area, but finding the funding to update water and wastewater systems can sometimes be a challenge.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture is stepping in to help
The Rural Development department has earmarked $4 billion for loans and grants to rural towns to improve water systems. The funds can be used for the following:
- Drinking water sourcing, treatment, storage and distribution
- Sewer collection, transmission, treatment and disposal
- Solid waste collection, disposal and closure
- Storm water collection, transmission and disposal
Is Your Community Eligible?
Areas that may be eligible include:
- Rural areas and towns with populations of 10,000 or less
- Tribal lands in rural areas
- Colonias
Who Are Qualified Applicants?
- Most state and local governmental entities
- Private nonprofits
- Federally-recognized tribes
